We grow Japanese maples (Acer palmatum) as understory trees in our shaded back yard. In fall they are spectacular. The buttery yellow tree in the foreground is the coral bark Japanese maple ('Sango Kaku'). During winter it will develop coral red twigs. The intense orange foliage in the background originates on one of our homegrown Japanese maple seedlings.
